Amy & Michael 1st November 2014

One of my favourite things about being a wedding photographer is the way in which I walk into a room at the start of the day able to count the faces I recognise on one hand but walk away at the end feeling like they are my own friends and family. Never has this been more true than with Amy and Michael’s beautiful autumnal wedding at Epsom College three weeks ago.

I met with Amy and her six beautiful bridesmaids at her parent’s house in nearby Leatherhead. I arrived to the sound of good music, a beautiful new born baby’s gurgles and just the right amount of champagne being cautiously but gratefully sipped. The girl’s danced around the kitchen barefoot (but with immaculate hair and make-up) whilst the father of the bride and two of his friends took in the serendipitous autumn sunshine and fresh air next to the vintage bridal cars. I later found out that the tradition of getting ready at this house is long standing and it is easy to see why.

After a short drive to Epsom College (in a vintage 1950’s Zepher with animal print seat covers!) we arrived to find Michael and his brother/best-man David waiting at the altar. The Chapel of St Luke benefits from an upper balcony overlooking the congregation as well as some truly stunning stained glass windows that cast colourful beams of light across the chapel. Amy walked down the aisle on her father’s arm wearing a beautiful gown by Justin Alexander and carrying a stunning brooch bouquet made by her oldest friend and bridesmaid Nina Katherine (soon to be on Etsy).

Drinks and the Groom’s speech were held in the Main Hall of Epsom college after which guests were invited to take their sets in the Old School. With all three buildings just a short walk apart and set in stunning grounds, Epsom college made a beautiful back-drop to Amy and Michael’s wedding throughout. Food was served and further speeches from the best man and father of the bride had the guests laughing, gasping and crying in all the right places. After a quick ballet lesson from some of the younger guests it was time to cut the cake, beautifully made by the mother of the groom and accompanied with a personalised knife engraved by Culinary Concepts of London.

Thanks to the provision of ‘dancing shoes’, available in a range of sizes, celebrations carried on well into the night with a guest appearance by the bride herself on vocal’s for live band The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Four generations of Amy and Michael’s friends and families came together for this one special day to help them celebrate and I am so grateful to them for inviting me to be a part of their day.

(PS Extra thank you’s go to David, best-man, grandparent herder and all round fountain of knowledge. Matt, who made a fantastic MC and general good time-keeper. Nina, for nailing the whole brooch bouquet thing first time, (I have already been asked for your details!) Michael’s Dad for rescuing me from the train station when the cab’s failed me. Amy’s parents for their kindness and support before the ceremony.)
